Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the off-duty officer saw three men confronting a woman and her son. One of the men was pointing a firearm at the woman.
When the officer tried to intervene he was shot twice.
The officer shot back at the robber, killing him instantly.
The officer was taken to Milpark hospital and discharged the same day. - Sapa
