The new public protector says she will leave the dispute over the state capture report prepared by h.
A witness has told of how Portia Kgantsi, the senior Scorpions advocate arrested for corruption, tried to use an attorney to carry her bag containing R40000 she had allegedly solicited from two fraud suspects.
Kgantsi, 39, of Faerie Glen in Pretoria, is alleged to have extorted the money from Nigerians Dijbril Issa Mohamedou and John Afolobi on September 28.
Keith Green, a Scorpions agent assigned to monitor Kgantsi after they had been informed that she had "requested money" from the two Nigerians, yesterday told the Johannesburg high court that Kgantsi arrived at the holding cells where the men were imprisoned at 6.30pm.
"She had a large white bag, a cellphone and a bottle of water," he said.
He said Mohamedou and Afolobi were then brought to the cell commander's office, where Kgantsi was waiting.
The three then went into one of the interviewing rooms.
He said Afolobi fetched an envelope containing money from the cell commander's office and went back to the interview room.
Kgantsi kept moving between the interviewing room and the commander's office.
Later Kgantsi, Mohamedou and Afolobi proceeded to the fingerprinting room.
Green said Kgantsi then left the room and returned later with an empty docket.
She left her bag and the docket in the fingerprinting room and went back to the cell commander's office.
Later a woman attorney arrived to see a client.
Green said he saw Kgantsi and the attorney talking.
He said Afolobi then brought Kgantsi's bag to the cell commander's office where she was sitting.
Kgantsi handed the bag to the attorney and they went to the main entrance to leave.
Green said at the charge office, the attorney tried to give Kgantsi her bag.
"The accused did not take the bag. She placed her hands behind her as if she was straightening her dress," said Green.
He said the attorney again tried to hand Kgantsi her bag. This time she took it and left.
Green said Kgantsi was later arrested outside the police station where she was found in possession of the money.
The trial continues.
