A date has been set for hearing arguments on whether an order granted to the National Directorate of Public Prosecutions authorising it to seize Thuso Motaung's assets should stand.

Motaung, a popular Lesedi FM DJ, his wife Mmamotha and businessman Joshua Ramme were arrested in November for defrauding the SABC of R32million.

They are alleged to have used the broadcaster's airtime to promote a product that it was claimed would make people healthier by strengthening their immune system.

Five months after they were arrested, the directorate's assets forfeiture unit attached their assets, which amounted to millions of rands. Twenty-nine vehicles, including taxis, and 15 houses were seized.

But the unit was dealt a blow when a businessman, Eddie Sengoza, challenged the seizure, saying the seized taxis belonged to him.

Lawyers for Sengoza and for the state agreed that the taxis would be returned on condition they were not sold or diminished in value.

Arguments will be heard in the Johannesburg high court on July 24.
