The Maluti a Phofung Local Municipality has congratulated Free State Stars on their return to the Castle Premiership.

Ea Lla Koto are back in the elite division after winning the Mvela Golden League title for the second time in three seasons.

Dr Balekile Mzangwa, pictured, a Phofung executive mayor, said: "Our congratulations to the players, the management and technical staff for gaining promotion.

"It was indeed tough in the Mvela Golden League judging by the expensively assembled squads of some of the clubs in the league.

"The promotion of Stars will certainly bring some much needed economic spin-offs to our people, especially the already promising tourism industry.

"We are happy and excited that the soccer loving fraternity will once more grace our shores as we move steadily towards the 2010 World Cup."

Mzangwa also wished another QwaQwa side, African Warriors, good luck in their quest to gain promotion to the First Division.

"We would like to wish another local side, African Warriors, every success as they prepare to host the Vodacom League playoffs.

"It will be a double celebration for us if they win promotion. Many of our youngsters will certainly get an opportunity to showcase their talent," said Mzangwa.

Mike Mokoena, Stars' chairman, said: "I find it strange that the mayor is congratulating us for gaining promotion. Why is he (the mayor) sending the message to the Sowetan?

"His congratulatory message is unacceptable, all the other people have been sending messages to our offices in the past week.

"I will only accept it when he sends the message to my office, as for all the other people who sent messages to us, we appreciate it."
