Mandla Thabethe, who plays the lovelorn Bongo in the television series Family Bonds has found the love of his life.

In the series, Bongo is in endless pursuit of Winnie, played by Xolisile Zondi, but in real life he has found true love with Mmapula Mokgoatsene, his girlfriend of six years.

Thabethe and Mokgoatsene got married on Saturday in a traditional ceremony attended by more than 100 guests in Ramotswa in Botswana.

Mokgoatsene, who runs a wedding coordination business in Johannesburg, hails from Ramotswa.

"We wanted it to be a small wedding attended by close family and friends," said Thabethe.

"I think because of my television role several people got to know about this closely guarded wedding."

Speaking of how he met his new wife, he said: When we met we were to discuss a business deal, but ended up phoning each other after that. We have a one- year-old son.

"We will have a white wedding in Durban in four month's time."
