The Young Communist League yesterday accused the ANC of trying to sneak in policies that would undermine the rights of youth workers.
The league said the ANC was trying to remove the legislated protection of young workers through the introduction of a two-tier labour system.
The issue of the system was raised within the ANC apparently to remedy the labour cost in South Africa. The suggestion is that there should be different regulations for newly employed and inexperienced youth.
"The league calls on all progressive forces in the ANC to reject any attempt in the party's policy conference to re-introduce the discussion, which the 2005 national general council contemptuously discarded. Rights of all workers in South Africa should be jealously protected, and this includes the rights of youth workers", said the league. - Sapa
