Yesterday workers throughout the world celebrated May Day - a day when they celebrate their achievements in the quest for a better life.
In South Africa, workers also celebrated 13 years of freedom. With this freedom came progressive laws.
Despite these achievements more needs to be done to ensure that the majority of South Africans enjoy the freedom achieved in 1994.
Cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi has said that South Africans have much to celebrate but "we continue to face the daunting task of fighting unemployment and poverty".
The ANC agrees that much work needs to be done to ensure that workers' lives and that of the poor are improved.
