US soul music diva India.Arie, who is due to perform two concerts in South Africa, says she is the perfect person to be performing here for a good cause.

"I am happy to be here, not only to perform, but to perform for a good cause. I love South Africa - I am here for the third time - and I am the perfect person to perform at a concert whose cause is women and child abuse," the artist said at a press conference yesterday.

India.Arie said she was aware of the "overt" crime in South Africa which was not necessarily different to anywhere in the world.

She added she was aware of incidents of women abuse even within her own family.

Local musicians who attended the press conference, Siphokazi and diva Judith Sephuma, added their voices to the campaign against child and women abuse, which is the theme of this year's sixth Divas concert.

India.Arie will share the stage with fellow US singer Oleta Adams at Carnival City tomorrow, and at the Divas Concert at Supersport Park on Sunday with local divas Sephuma, Letta Mbuli, Sibongile Khumalo and Rebecca Malope.
