Ndabo Khoza, pictured, is the new chief executive of Tourism KwaZulu-Natal (TKZN). Khoza has been acting head of the province's official tourism destination marketing organisation since July last year and his appointment is effective from May 1 this year.

Khoza, who was born and educated in Durban, graduated from the University of Zululand with a B.Com (Accounting) degree in 1987. He has held several high-profile positions in the public and private sectors, his most recent being the chief operating officer for TKZN. He also held the position of deputy director-general in the public service commission.

Khoza told Sowetan: "I am honoured by the confidence and trust shown by the board in my capabilities to lead the organisation at this critical stage, which presents significant opportunities for growing and transforming the province's tourism industry."

The appointment was confirmed by KwaZulu-Natal MEC for arts, culture and tourism, Weziwe Thusi.

Thusi said she had every confidence in Khoza's ability to lead the organisation as the province strives to grow its tourism sector domestically and internationally.

"As we prepare the province, and especially its tourism industry for a host of milestones including the new international airport, the 2010 Soccer World Cup and other major tourism-related developments, we are confident that Khoza will put Tourism KwaZulu-Natal at the forefront of these developments," said Thusi.

Khoza's appointment comes a few weeks before the province hosts Africa's biggest tourism trade show, Indaba 2007, which will be held from May 12 to 15.
