More than 20 Grade 2 pupils at Niyona Junior Secondary School, in Mount Frere, Eastern Cape, are to be given counselling after they saw their teacher shot to death.

Teacher Fundiswa Sonqishe, pictured right, was killed when an unknown man gained entry to the school and shot her while she was teaching on Monday afternoon.

School principal Mlungisi Manyala said the man asked to be taken to Sonqishe's classroom.

"After he entered the classroom we heard three gunshots. He then came running out.

"Then the pupils ran screaming out of the classroom," Manyala added.

He said pupils and teachers were still traumatised by the incident. He added that they were getting a great deal of moral support from parents, community members, police and education department officials.
