Hark Molaba's Luxury Coaches, a bus company that operates between Johannesburg and Malamulele in Giyani, Limpopo, has filed an application for a court order that would compel Limpopo police commissioner Calvin Sengani to protect its buses against attacks by taxi operators.

In its application to the Pretoria high court, the company claims that Sengani has contravened a court order issued on March 23 last year that required him to investigate the intimidation of, and violence against the company's staff and passengers by members of the Giyani-Malamulele-Johannesburg Long-distance Tax Association.

Donald Mokoena, transport manager of Hark Coaches, said the taximen had continued with their intimidation and violence.

Mokoena said that in the latest incident a Hark bus driver was shot and admitted to Nkhensani Hospital in a serious condition.

He said this was what led to the company making the latest court application.

Moatshe Ngoepe, a spokesman for the Mopani police, said the police were investigating the shooting of the Hark driver.

Bennie Mokoena, an attorney for Hark Coaches, confirmed that the company had filed a court application against the provincial commissioner in order to compel him to protect the company's staff and business interests.
