Recent reports about ANC leaders in KwaZulu-Natal plotting to make the province a no-go area for the president is yet another issue to incense South Africans as the ANC succession race hots up.
We should know the motives of the people behind these plans. They are a shame to our democracy.
A full report is needed to clarify the matter and also prevent it from being unnecessarily sensationalised .
The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has denied the reports. Now this calls for someone to account for them.
Interestingly enough, the media is at the centre of the matter. Journalists are accountable to their readers, listeners, viewers and each other. Journalists also need to clarify and explain news coverage and invite dialogue.
However, in cases such as this, where such bold statements are being made, no one is claiming responsibility.
President Thabo Mbeki is right in describing the reports that certain ANC leaders in KwaZulu-Natal had declared the province a no-go area as "silly and nonsensical".
Even the meeting due to take place between Mbeki, Jacob Zuma and ANC leaders in KwaZulu-Natal will not bear any fruit because nobody knows where the alleged plot originated.
