Succession just a diversion

I do not think there is a problem with who will take over as president of the ANC.

I do not think there is a problem with who will take over as president of the ANC.

It is good for us all to guess, debate and perhaps disagree. This is a healthy approach in a democracy.

My experience is that not even the late OR Tambo publicly announced his wish to become president of the ANC, having led the movement for many hard years in exile. That was finally decided by a conference.

I think what is important for us as a nation is to concentrate on issues that affect our country and the continent, like the Zimbabwe issue, the DRC and Sudan.

And what is it that needs to be done to make the 2010 World Cup a success.

It seems many South Africans do not choose to ignore the history of our struggle for liberation.

I think it is about time we concerned ourselves with the challenges of economic development and the transformation of our country.

The succession question causes a lot of confusion and it is a diversion from the objectives that really matter.

As much as we respect the right to freedom of expression, we cannot go on like this while there are so many challenges the government needs to address.
