e-Licences get off to good start

The new e-Natis system for vehicle registration and driver's licences was in full swing in Eastern Cape this week.

Despite logistical and technical challenges - and widespread problems elsewhere in the country - the province managed a "significant number of transactions".

Provincial roads and transport spokesman Ncedo Kumbaca was optimistic about progress.

"The Nelson Mandela Metropole alone made 4500 transactions. The Port Elizabeth driver's licence testing centre processed 1580 transactions," he said.

Kumbaca said King William's Town did 726 transactions, Mthatha 673, East London 449, Gonubie 625 and Queenstown 517.

He added that these figures demonstrated Eastern Cape had performed well.

"We will continue to work with our national counterparts in analysing, optimising and customising the system to ensure that by tomorrow, at the latest, the system is running smoothly," he said. - Vuyolwethu Sangotsha
