The ownership of Durban football club Lamontville Golden Arrows is in dispute.
Two former professional footballers, Jubane Zungu and Mahlalela Hadebe, have taken the Premier Soccer League team's directors, brothers Manto and Rocky Madlala, to court over the ownership of the club.
Zungu, a former Arrows player, and Hadebe, a former Kaizer Chiefs player, claim that they are the rightful owners of the club.
Yesterday Zungu told the Durban high court that the two of them had revived the club in 1995 after it had disbanded.
"After reviving a team that was no longer there, we registered with the Durban and Country Association.
"Our main purpose was to play in the second division and we bought Ntokozo FC for R85000, and asked Rocky Madlala to help us because he was a lawyer," said Zungu.
He said the three men contributed R5000 each as a deposit on the purchase of Ntokozo FC. They agreed to pay monthly instalments of R1000 each until all the money was paid.
"After some time, Rocky Madlala told me to stop paying. He said the team was able to make money from gate takings. He told me to concentrate on ensuring that the the players were physically up to standard," said Zungu.
Zungu said things went well until Rocky Madlala disappeared.
"We could not find him anywhere," he said.
He said Rocky and Manto Madlala registered the club in 2001 and excluded him and Hadebe from the board of directors.
"We tried to talk to Rocky Madlala, but he would not come to the party. We have tried to negotiate with him since 2001 without success," he said.
Zungu said he was asking for ownership of one-third of the team.
Durban high court judge Morris Pilimar is expected to make a written judgment next week.
