When the Sunshine Tour travels to the Western Cape for the Vodacom Origins of Golf, rising star James Kamte will be campaigning in the Challenge Tour in Europe this week.
Kamte, who finished second in the Tusker Kenya Open last month, to qualify for the Italian Open, played commendably well to come third in the Eskom Power Cup played at Pecanwood Golf and Country Club at Hartebeespoort Dam at the weekend.
Tied with Warren Abery in the final round, the 24-year old rising black star bogeyed the final hole to settle for third at 12-under with a final round 67.
Kamte, who will be campaigning on the Challenge Tour, will be trying to claim a few good finishes before he returns to South Africa for the birth of his first child, due in May.
Kamte said he could have won the Eskom Power Cup had he not bogeyed in the final hole and missed shot putts for a birdie.
The event was won by Chris Swanepoel, lifting his maiden Sunshine Tour title with a virtually flawless final round 66 on Sunday.
His winner's cheque, worth R63,400, catapulted the 22-year old star from Warmbaths from 56th to 25th on the current Order of Merit. Former Telkom PGA and Nashua Masters champion Abery produced an excellent run.
