Convicted Durban fraudster Schabir Shaik was yesterday admitted to a Durban hospital suffering from hypertension and depression.
A KwaZulu-Natal health official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that Shaik had been admitted to Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital.
The official said the health department was expected to issue a statement shortly.
He also said that the correctional services department had "requested us to manage their patient who is suffering from hypertension and depression".
Shaik's brother, Mo Shaik, declined to talk to the media, saying that he was in a meeting and he referred all queries about his brother to the correctional services department.
