A long-standing family dispute has resulted in the ruthless killing of three family members at Dondotha, KwaMbonambi outside Empangeni on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast.

Ngoza Nala, 46, his son Mduduzi Nala, 27, and a relative Mthunzi Majola, 37, were ambushed on Friday and killed in a hail of bullets.

The three were returning from the local police station after reporting to them in terms of their bail conditions.

They were facing charges of murder relating to the killing of Mayibone Mthethwa, 33, Mfanafuthi Ngcobo, 25, and his brother Khulekani Ngcobo, 33.

The three had been gunned down on Christmas day last year while returning from Johannesburg to spend Christmas at home with their families.

In December Sowetan reported that five Nala family members were attacked and killed while asleep.

Lindeni, 6, Kwanda, 10, Bongumusa, 8, daughter-in-law Skholwane, 22, and a month-old baby, Ntokozo, were asleep when they were attacked. Their house was then set alight.

Captain Jabulani Mdletshe said that when Nala, his son and Majola were attacked, two other relatives with them had escaped with minor injuries.

Mdletshe said no arrests had been made and police were still investigating.
