Municipality neglects orphan

Riot Hlatshwayo

A Mpumalanga woman says her life is miserable because she cannot access her late father's pension contribution.

The father of Nompumelelo Ndziyana, 22, pictured, died in 2003 and she has not received a cent from the Bushbuckridge local municipality. Ndziyana said this has prevented her from furthering her studies.

"The death of my father ruined my future because his employer is taking me from pillar to post when I demand his pension," said Ndziyana.

She said her father Elphus Rufus Madalane was a general worker at the municipality.

The Bushbuckridge local municipality spokesman, Zondi Mkhabela, promised to personally deal with the matter following Sowetan's inquiry.
