The internationally acclaimed Moving into Dance Mophatong (MIDM), a dance group from Johannesburg, has left for Sweden to captivate audiences there.

The group left on Friday and will perform in Sweden until the end of the month.

Among the performances planned for the trip is Catching the Bird, choreographed by Marie Brolyn-Tani. Catching the Bird celebrates freedom and the passion people in South Africa have for their country.

MIDM will also performMzansi-Africa Delight, which is a celebration of South Africa's diverse culture, as well as a work choreographed by Swedish women.

Among their latest work is Blankets of Shame, aimed at educating communities on the effects of rape and child and women abuse.

The choreographer, Sylvia Glasser, has already been nominated for an award for the "thought-provoking, challenging and moving" work.

Jabu Nyandeni of MIDM said: "We would really like to take Blankets of Shame nationally because everyone should see it," he said.

"[Organisation] loveLife facilitate counselling after performances [in schools and communities].
