Friends and colleagues gathered on Saturday at the Randfontein Community Hall to pay tribute to a slain police inspector.

They described him as an honest leader who believed in "justice for all".

But others close to him told a different story about the suspended policeman.

They claimed he was "abusive, rude and rowdy" and that this behaviour probably led to his death.

The policeman was stabbed several times at his home on April 7.

His 17-year-old son allegedly stabbed him after an argument between the two of them.

Captain Joseph Magoai said it was not known what sparked the argument.

The teenager was arrested and later released on bail.

Magoai said that the policeman had been suspended "sometime in January for a criminal case".

Sources close to the family said that he was in the process of divorcing his wife.
