Ross Rankapole, a well-known Limpopo attorney, died on Saturday in a car accident near Polokwane. He was 34.
Rankapole rose to prominence when he was appointed to head the Limpopo minerals and energy portfolio in 2005. His primary task was to facilitate the ownership of mineral rights in communities.
He obtained his BProc at the University of Durban, as well as his LLB in 1995.
Rankapole started his schooling at GaRametlwana in 1980. He was in the first group of pupils to study at the famed St Marks College in Jane Furse in 1985.
His wife Keitumetse Pila described her husband's death as a blow to the family and youth.
"He was a strong and intelligent man. He was supportive and we will all miss him.
"My husband was a true leader who cared for his own people."
Premier Sello Moloto said his death was "a devastating loss to the province".
Rankapole will be buried tomorrow at Silicon Cemetery in Polokwane. The funeral service will be held at Cosmo Leisure at 8am. The procession leaves for the cemetery at 10am.
He is survived by his wife, two children, parents and a sister.
