I would have thought that the transport portfolio would require maximum attention.
I would also assume that our health department, with all its problems in terms of dealing with HIV-Aids and dabbling in the affairs of the pharmacist in terms of their price-fixing agenda, would require full-time attention in that department as well.
Yet our government believes that Minister Jeff Radebe is able to do the job of two ministers, and is loathe to allow the deputy minister to take her rightful place.
I would say that the government should first ensure that both portfolios are well looked after, and that there is appropriate and full-time leadership dealing with these issues at all times.
In the same vein how can we afford to share our crime fighters by sending our best crime fighters over to help in the World Cup Cricket?
Are we now not only denying the seriousness of crime, but proving to South Africans that we do not believe that there is a crime problem in South Africa?
It was a shame to see that our foreign peacekeeping budget cost more than our internal policing budget, but now to start donating much needed personnel to another foreign cause cannot give anyone in South Africa peace of mind.
