Lack of entertainment facilities in Rustenburg, one of the 2010 World Cup cities, were a cause for concern for the people of North West.

The concern was raised by George Khonou, who is the Royal Bafokeng Sports Holdings managing director, at a 2010 provincial conference in Sun City last week.

"The inner city is really of a third world (standard), there is no growth. It will make it difficult for our visitors to find anything interesting.

"We need to come up with plans to make it a tourist's friendly city, we also need to unite with all the people running accommodation, like Sun City, in discussions."

On the issue of base camps to be used for the participating countries, Khonou said Rustenburg should share with other towns in the province.

"The training camps should go to Klerksdorp and Matlosana, we don't want to be greedy that everything should be in Rustenburg."

Dealing with tourism and marketing, Invest North West's Floyd Leeu said 2010 would be used as a vehicle to promote the province as a destination of choice.

Leeu said North West had tourists' attraction places, citing the Taung Skull as one of the world's heritage sites. Ramphelane Morewane, Bojanela district director in the department of health, said the training of hawkers needed urgent attention.
