For a long time though it seemed as if Loxion Kulca had died a quick death after it was marred by the Fong Kong phenomenon.
Like its international counterparts including Nike, Power and Reebok, Loxion Kulca took a nose dive.
The fracas was so great that even products presented by brand owners, Sechaba Mogale, were refused until the streetwise dug deep into their bags of thought.
They put "99", a township term meaning the real thing, on the back of their wares and then took it from there.
Now that the brand has been resuscitated by smart marketing skills, it is proudly raising its head again, to the whistles and applause of many.
The winter collection this year boasts mens, ladies and kids shoes.
Brand spokesman, Wandi Nzimande, said their silhouettes are designed to make a statement.
"The brand is all about being unique and proud of who you are.
"With the cities under construction and the buzz of 2010 in the air, the general energy is up and onward," Nzimande said.
He also said the range is made of good quality leather, canvas and cotton.
"Comfort is key and not only will you look the part, but you will have stride in your walk," he said.
Loxion has also designed a range of super-cool canvas slip-ons and lace-up sneakers, designed in high and low-top styles for kids.
"The shoes come in different colours - bright and bold, fun and funky.
"All Loxion Kulca products are designed for the individual.
