Three hired hitmen are travelling from Mamelodi in Pretoria. They park their minivan at the corner of Paul Kruger and Marshall streets in Polokwane at about 10pm on December 4 2004.

l Two of them, Gustav Snyman and Samson Mogalaka, jump out of the vehicle and run towards a flat nearby where local pharmacist, Andrew Tladi, lives. Gilbert Makhobela, the driver, stays in the van.

l A few minutes later, Tladi - shot in the leg and bloodied - is dragged out of the flat and bundled into the boot of his own Mercedes-Benz.

l Under contract from Tladi's wife, Kgomotso, the three hitmen flee the scene in the two cars and race in convoy towards Marble Hall. Their instructions are to kill Tladi, but to make it look like a robbery.

l They stop and an argument ensues over who should "finish him off".

l Mogalaka draws a firearm and offers it to Makhobela. He refuses to carry out the job. Mogalaka turns to Snyman.

He also refuses to kill the victim, who is groaning in pain in the boot of his car.

l Mogalaka threatens Snyman and points the firearm at his forehead.

l Mogalaka steps towards the car, opens the boot and shoots Tladi at point blank range.

l Tladi dies on the scene. And the hitmen flee.
