DJ S'bu is riding the crest of a wave and his first day on the Ukhozi FM breakfast show got off to a flying start.
DJ S'bu, whose real name is S'busiso Leope, had his debut in the Ukhozi studio hotseat with S'bonga "Mngadi" Zungu flooded with phone calls. He took to the airwaves broadcasting live from the Rand Easter Show.
It was a confident yet humble S'bu who told his new fans that he wanted to grow and learn.
He said the move to Ukhozi was special for him.
"Moving from a provincial to a national station is a big growth moment for me and broadcasting to more than 10million people is amazing. I'm very positive that I will learn more at Ukhozi FM. I'm here to stay. S'bonga will teach me more things, especially the isiZulu language. We will remove the perception that the station is only for old people."
He said the show would be informative and educational, dealing with cultural and social values.
"Social responsibility is my love."
Mlamuli Nxele, the station's marketing manager, said: "Our phone lines were blocked. We received SMSes and e-mails from people appreciating the move.
"We did not expect so much. Everywhere people are talking about the show."
