Correctional Services spokesman Manelisi Wolela has denied allegations that student leader Mcebo Dla.
Tsietsie Mokgabi, the manager in the office of the mayor of Lichtenburg district in North West, was sent scurrying by angry demonstrators at Itsoseng township yesterday.
Mokgabi had been sent by the mayor of Lichtenburg, Elizabeth Lethoko, to receive a memorandum from more than 700 disgruntled villagers of Verdwaal, near Itsoseng, on her behalf.
The residents were protesting against more than 830 houses having been without water for the past four months in the township.
"The council had supplied us with Zozo tanks for water consumption, but those are useless because people had thrown used condoms into the tanks.
"We cannot risk our lives and our families by drinking water that is unhealthy," said Mavis Pholo, who is a resident of Verdwaal.
Andy Montsho, a leader of the Verdwaal Concerned Residents association, said the mayor was not sympathetic to the plight of the residents.
"We have decided to hand over this memorandum to the executive mayor of Mafikeng, Themba Gwabeni, because Lethoko is afraid to sit down with her own people and discuss the matter that concerns all of us," said Montsho.
