Limpopo companies Sekoko Resources and PetroSA are to use the technological expertise they gained at the recent annual international coal-to-liquid and gasification conference in China to benefit the country.

Collins Chabane, the province's MEC for economic development, said yesterday: "It emerged that Limpopo has the potential to be a leader in the country's petro-chemicals industry.

"A Chinese company is negotiating for a partnership with the giant mining company Exxaro in the expansion of Grootgeluk coal mine in Lephalale," he said.

The expansion is expected to translate into billions of rands in investments and job creation on a huge scale.

Sekoko Resources' chairman, Tim Tebeila, said his company was conducting a feasibility study in the Waterberg in connection with establishing a coal mine there.
