The country's fastest growing black urban music radio station, Igagasi FM in Durban, is poised for greater things.
This emerged at the station's first birthday celebrations, which ended at the weekend when management said its mission was to make the station the biggest and best in the region.
Over the past 12 months Igagasi has recorded a 100percent listenership growth - from 500000 to 1million.
The three-day birthday celebration started with a gala dinner, hosted by Sowetan at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre and Arena on Friday evening.
Judith Sephuma and Malaika kept dinner guests on the edge of their seats with their superb performances.
Sephuma had everyone eating out of the palm of her hand and took everyone down memory lane when she performed Brenda Fassie's Zola Budd.
The dinner was followed by a concert attended by more than 6000 people at the same venue on Saturday and a fun-filled family picnic at Dales Park in Pietermaritzburg on Sunday.
At the concert Lvovo De'rango, Mafikizolo, Brigz, Jozi, Pitch Black Afro, Durban Finest, Somizi and Friends, Kabelo and others set the stage alight with their splendid performances. But it was De'rango who stole the show.
Station manager Pearl Sokhulu said: "We never expected to make such a contribution on the airways and I am grateful for the achievement.
"The team we have at Igagasi is committed and the fact that we have reached a million-mark in our first year shows that if you work hard and are dedicated, you will get to the top," she said.
Sokhulu said the station struggled initially after it was relaunched last year, but could now only increase its following further.
Popular DJ Alex Mthiyane won the station's ambassador award for taking the station to the top and for "living the brand of the station". The award was also for his outstanding performance on his breakfast show Alex.
Mthiyane co-hosts the show with Phumlani Dube and Noluthando 'Mamgo' Ngubane. The trio also received the station's first ever on-air award for excellence and dedication.
