Mpumalanga will increase the visibility of traffic officers to ensure road safety during the forthcoming Easter weekend.

Tomorrow Roads and Transport MEC David Mabuza will launch the province's Easter Arrive Alive plans at the Thulamahashe Stadium.

Mabuza's spokesman David Nkambule said they had started with intensified operations in a bid to reduce road fatalities.

"The launch will mark a comprehensive campaign by the department in a quest to ensure safety on all our roads during this time of the year and great emphasis will be put on traffic officers' visibility," Nkambule said.

The department has planned road safety road shows throughout the province during the Easter period.

Nkambule said the Easter Arrive Alive campaign would continue to be branded with the department's Sivuth' Umlilo and Cabulela Ekhaya slogans.

Sivuth' Umlilo implies that provincial traffic officials will not tolerate transgressors on the roads and Cabulela Ekhaya encourages motorists and pedestrians not to drink and drive or walk on the roads while drunk.

This campaign will culminate into the Global Road Safety Week, which will be held from April 23 to April 29. This safety week will be dedicated to young road users who travel the roads as pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, novice drivers and passengers.
