Ligwalagwala FM will stage the first phase of its month-long 25th birthday celebrations at the Barberton prison in Mpumalanga tomorrow.

The bash will offer a wide variety of local music genres including live performances by Tuks, Mr Selwyn, ProKid, Malik Shanna, Malini, Magarimbe, Slice, Magesh, Gwyza, Flabba, Sgonondo, Pantsula, Rebecca Malope and many more.

Throughout April, the station will promote 25 years of "The Pride of the Swati people: Ligwalagwala FM".

The station will also stage a jazz festival on April 8 that will feature some of South Africa's most prominent artists, including the pulsating Kelly Khumalo and multiplatinum selling Afro-pop group, Mafikizolo.

Ligwalagwala FM's marketing manager, Mfundo Ntsibande, told Sowetan the station would also be hosting a premium golf day for clients and stakeholders today at the White River Golf Estate.

Station manager, Rio Mabunda, said prizes would be given to listeners as a way of saying "thank you".

"We are very excited about the 25th birthday. For us it symbolises growth and we look forward to many more," said Mabunda.

"As a way of thanking our listeners we will entertain them with music concerts and give away lots of prizes on air," he added.

Bruce Kgapane, managing director of Ziyaphenduka Promotions, which will be providing the stage, sound, audiovisuals and fireworks, said listeners would experience something new tomorrow.

"We are bringing state-of-the-art equipment so listeners can taste something they have never tasted before," he said.
