A couple who made headlines for allegedly defrauding a Vaal hotel, a car-hire company and the suppliers of elaborate horse and carriages for special occasionsappeared briefly in the Vereeniging magistrates' court yesterday.
Moleboheng Molotsane, 26, and her husband Benjamin Molotsane, 29, allegedly used letterheads from President Thabo Mbeki's office to arrange their extravagant wedding last year.
The couple allegedly duped the companies into believing that their bill, which amounted to R90 300, would be settled by President Thabo Mbeki's office.
Moleboheng was released on R3 500 bail while her husband was freed on a warning. Before their arrest Moleboheng was employed as a secretary in the office of the presidency where she allegedly stole a computer and the letterheads that she allegedly used to defraud the hotel and car-hire and horse carriage companies.
On her release she was placed under 24-hour house arrest and could only leave her house on Sundays between 9am and 2pm.
Moleboheng was re-arrested two weeks later for contravening her bail conditions after she was spotted looking for employment at the Vaal University of Technology in Vanderbijlpark.
Last month her bail conditions were relaxed after she informed the court through her lawyer, Johannes Makhae, that she wanted to pursue her career in acting.
Yesterday the couple's case was transferred from the district court to the regional court.
The case was postponed to April 19.
