A 38-year-old man has told the Rustenburg magistrates' court that he did not take kindly to insults and would not hesitate to assault the magistrate if she insulted him.
Bafana Mfati, of Boitekong, near Rustenburg, told magistrate Charmaine Barnard on Wednesday that he sjambokked Georgina Mosai in Boitekong last month because she insulted him while he was drinking.
Mfati initially pleaded guilty to a charge of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, but the plea was changed to not guilty when he denied certain elements of his guilty plea.
He told the court that Mosai came to his home carrying a baby in the early hours of February 9 and found him drinking beer with his roommate.
Barnard asked him whether he had the right to assault the complainant and he replied that if she insulted him he would indeed assault her.
The magistrate asked him whether he would assault her, the magistrate, if she insulted him.
He replied that he would not hesitate to assault her as he did not take kindly to insults.
His case was postponed to June 4 for trial. His bail of R300 was extended. - Sapa
