Visa Wings of KwaZulu-Natal, last year's runners-up, tipped off the SuperSport Wheelchair Basketball League season on a promising note by collecting four points at the Mandeville Indoor Centre at the weekend.

In the opening league games held on Saturday, Wings brushed aside defending champions Altech Autopage Cellular 66-48 in an exciting game. They went on to dispose of Saints from Cape Town 67-33 on the next day.

Wings' coach Mazwi Gwala said they deserved to win on both days because they put up great performances.

"Good communication and combination up front were the team's strong points to our success," he said.

Charles Saunders, South Africa Wheelchair Basketball's operations officer, said the league will run until September.

Other results: Turke Pumas 57, Harmony Rand 45; Transwerk 31, Eastern Bear 19; Anglo Gold Ashanti Lions 66, Discovery Eagles 56.
