SABC not off sporting mark

Tshifhiwa Magadani's letter "SABC disrespects sports viewers" in Sowetan on March 27 refers.

With due respect, Magadani does not compare cricket coverage with any other sport for justification.

Common sense tells us that the SABC did not manufacture the game of cricket, neither can the SABC determine time zones or broadcast times if cricket is being played.

If they start at 9.30am in Jamaica, obviously we'll watch from around 3pm local time until very late.

Bear in mind SABC mainly covers locally played senior squad cricket matches as the host broadcaster - apart from significant tournaments such as the World Cup. This means when our team tours overseas, not SABC, but SuperSport covers the games because of broadcasting rights. All Bafana Bafana games played locally and overseas are covered by the SABC.

SABC is not a sport-dedicated broadcaster like SuperSport, but still the corporation tries its best to satisfy fanatics of the country's three main sporting codes.

I for one don't see any issue of black or white as far as SABC sport coverage is concerned because even some of the broadcast rugby games are delayed.
