Gospel artist Mojeremane Lucas Xale will languish in jail for the next few days for allegedly raping a young and aspirant gospel artist.
The singer, 53, made a brief appearance at the GaRankuwa magistrates' court on Tuesday for the alleged rape of an 18-year-old schoolgirl.
Inspector Paul Ramaloko said: "The suspect has been remanded in custody until his next appearance in the same court on April 2 for bail application.
"Our investigations are continuing and we will not leave any stone unturned to get to the bottom of this matter," he said.
Ken Haycock, of Cool Spot, the recording company to which Mojeremane belongs, yesterday said they were aware of the singer's arrest.
"We will see what the court has to say next week, but for now we must not prejudge the outcome. Our constitution clearly states that one is innocent until proven otherwise by the courts of law," he said.
Mojeremane is a revered gospel artist whose albums have reached gold status.
