There is much discussion about how to help Zimbabwe find its way back to peace and prosperity. In my view, President Robert Mugabe, right, is the key to any resolution in that country.
If he were to be overthrown or assassinated, without adequate succession, there would be a civil war, and no one wants that.
What South Africa should do is persuade other SADC countries to sit down with Mugabe and explain to him that massive civil unrest in Zimbabwe would be a serious threat to all countries. Mugabe is undoubtedly the key to Zimbabwe's future. Without him there will be chaos.
As for MDC president Morgan Tsvangirai, I doubt that the policies he is driving are his own. It seems like someone else is driving the process.
I also want to remind South Africans, especially DA leader Tony Leon, that the people of Zimbabwe voted for Mugabe. Let us wait for the next elections and once again the masses will vote for a government of their choice.
