Killed with her pots and pans

An 80-year-old woman in North West died after a man she had once employed as a shepherd allegedly pelted her with household objects.

Maria Setlhogo, from Mohuhutso No 1, near Atamelang township, was with her grandchild late on Friday night when their former employee, 19, allegedly forced his way into their house and demanded a cellphone.

Captain Jacob Mothibi said that when Setlhogo hesitated in giving him her cellphone the man threw household objects at her. She died at the scene from head injuries.

The man allegedly stabbed the seven-year-old granddaughter several times and left her unconscious . Neighbours found the girl and took her to hospital .

The man appeared yesterday in the Atamelang magistrates' court charged with murder and attempted murder. The case was postponed to April 4. - Elisha Molefe
