SAB hit by water crisis

Water shortages in Polokwane, Limpopo, have adversely affected production levels at the local South African Breweries' plant.

So bad was the situation that SAB cannot brew enough and relies on stock from its plants in Gauteng.

The plant has experienced severe water shortages in the past month, resulting in unacceptably low production levels.

Though officials yesterday rejected reports that they were about to close shop, Sowetanestablished that the water shortages in Polokwane in the past months had affected production.

Michael Farr, SAB head of communications, yesterday conceded the situation was bad for business.

The SAB plant in Polokwane is one of the largest in the country .

It employs 88 full-time staff and brews several brands. - Selby Makgotho
