School kids are out of control

The recent statistics on teenage pregnancies in the country are distressing.

The recent statistics on teenage pregnancies in the country are distressing.

The numbers do not give a true reflection as they do not include those who have terminated pregnancies. School kids are out of control.

The worst incident happened at Mandisa Shiceka High School in Kagiso where two pupils engaged in a sex romp in full view of their peers. These pupils should just be expelled. This type of behaviour is unacceptable.

The situation is getting worse despite the life orientation classes provided at schools. There is no hope of reducing new HIV-Aids infections unless this behaviour is addressed.

Knowledge is aimed at helping youth to make informed choices - yet they do the opposite.

But who is really responsible for impregnating these teenagers? Is it their peers or sugar daddies? We also need to review the role of stakeholders in society and what they are doing to change this situation.

The role of the media must be interrogated. Porn is easily available on TV and cellphones, and the music industry is using sex to sell records.

Parents must stamp their authority and teach their kids about values and good behaviour.
