MTN South Africa have once again committed themselves to foot the bill for the Transnet Football School of Excellence to take part in the World Schools Soccer Cup in Chile next month.
The cellphone company last week handed over R75 000 worth of equipment to the school, which was once the pride of South African development soccer.
The Chile-bound Excellence team are coached by legend Dan "Dance" Malesela, who said their preparations for Chile were well on track.
"It's going well, I have no doubt that the team that we have assembled will compete in Chile. They are a bunch of youngsters who are hungry for success.
"Schools close on March 23, but we have agreed to stay behind with all the boys to continue with our preparations," saidd Malesela.
It will be the second time that Excellence is competing in the World Schools Soccer Cup. They finished a credible fourth spot in Italy in 1987.
At that time, Excellence had a great team of youngsters in Steven Pienaar, John Nkambule, Shaun Potgieter, Daniel van Wyk and Zitha "Ninja" Mofokeng among others.
Themba Tshabalala, South African Schools Football Association coordinator, said they will support Excellence as they have done with other schools in the past.
Phumalani Hlatshwayo, MTN soccer and leisure sponsorship manager, said they will cover all the costs for the trip to Chile.
