Opponents of Robert Mugabe yesterday slammed the "deafening silence" of the South Africa government over the crisis in Zimbabwe in a protest outside Harare's consulate in Johannesburg.

Opponents of Robert Mugabe yesterday slammed the "deafening silence" of the South Africa government over the crisis in Zimbabwe in a protest outside Harare's consulate in Johannesburg.

"The situation in Zimbabwe is an African problem and countries like South Africa cannot go on keeping quiet when people die in Zimbabwe," said opposition lawmaker Roy Bennett, who now lives in exile in South Africa.

The reported beatings and human rights abuses have provoked worldwide condemnation, including from the US and UN. - Sapa-AFP
