A woman yesterday told how she thanked her ancestors shortly after alleged serial rapist Mongezi Jinxela offered her a job.

Jinxela is in court facing 261 charges, including 71 counts of rape.

The state alleges that he raped 65 women between 1994 and 2004. He has denied the allegations.

Crying bitterly in the witness box, the woman told the Johannesburg high court that she was in the Johannesburg CBD looking for work when Jinxela approached her with a job offer.

She said she agreed to accompany him.

"We boarded a taxi and alighted at a place I do not know. The taxi was going to Soweto," she explained.

"He said we should take a short cut to the factory through the bushes ," said the woman.

She said Jinxela suddenly placed what felt like a firearm or a knife at her back and ordered her to shut up.

The woman said she tried to scare him by saying that she was HIV positive, but he replied that he was too.

She said after he raped her, he ordered her to leave and not look back.
