A 16-year-old girl from Mxoxa near King William's Town was allegedly beaten to death with a sjambok by her 24-year-old boyfriend.
Police Captain Augusto van Heerden said the incident occurred yesterday morning.
"It is alleged the victim also had a relationship with another boy," Van Heerden said.
He said the boyfriend had apparently been enraged at this and went to the girl's house and confronted her.
Van Heerden said it was believed the suspect assaulted the girl with a sjambok and that she died at the scene almost two hours later.
The suspect was arrested for murder soon afterwards.
"A postmortem will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death," Van Heerden said. - Vuyolwethu Sangotsha
