Kwaito star Kabelo Mabalane will make history at this year's MTN South African Music Awards (Samas).

He will be the first awards' nominee to be the master of ceremonies for the event.

Kabelo, aka Bouga Luv, has been nominated in the categories of best male artist, best kwaito album and song of the year.

The 13th yearly MTN Samas will be held at Sun City Superbowl and will be broadcasted live on SABC 1 on April 14.

"I am determined to make this work. I am willing to put more effort than is required because this is a challenge to me.

"I am a product and a son of the music industry. On April 14, I will be standing there, 11 years after I started in the music industry. I will be celebrating an industry that has made me who I am," Kabelo said.

"The MTN Samas give those who win a real career boost - and for many nominees, it is their chance to be noticed. The Samas build careers and I am very proud to be involved in them this year."

The MTN Samas chief executive Sean Watson said: "We decided to have him because of his work in the community."
