We glorify thugs then complain

Our democratic government is not responsible for the crime ripping the country apart.

Our democratic government is not responsible for the crime ripping the country apart.

It is totally wrong for people to say that the government should act, because they are.

Academic and founding member of the ANC, John Langalibalele Dube, said Isitha somuntu nguyena uqobo lwakhe, meaning that we are our own enemies.

The government did not send Andrew Jordaan to kill Sheldean Human. The state is also not sending people to rob banks and blast ATMs all over the country.

The government does not feed, clothe and hide criminals. What the government is doing is working around the clock to put criminals where they belong - in jail.

The same people who complain about crime, ululate when criminals drive flashy and luxurious stolen cars in townships.

Criminals are respected more than honest, hardworking and law-abiding professionals. The people who complain about crime are the ones buying stolen goods from the evil doers.

They spend sleepless nights cursing hardworking police officers who arrest their children. They pay bail when their children are arrested for crime. We are our own enemies. It is up to us to end all this madness.

Joseph Kgomo, Pretoria
