Golden Gloves' spokesman, Terry Pettifer, says Grant Fourie, who will make his professional debut at Emperors Palace on March 27, is the answer to the appeals of a white hope.

"We've been crying out for a really good, well-equipped white fighter for years and Grant is that man", he said about the son of former junior middleweight top contender Louie and a nephew to the great Pierre Fourie.

Pettifer added that Fourie, whose opponent will be announced this week, will revive memories of the Fourie boxing brothers. Grant's first professional fight will take place at the Theatre of Marcellus in promoter Rodney Berman's Box-and-Dine tournament.

Grant is under the tutelage of former SA welterweight king Harold Volbrecht who ironically had a very close relationship with the late Pierre Fourie.

"At 23 with 58 wins in 61 amateur fights as well as an SA title to his name, he looks to be the finest white prospect in this country", said Volbrecht.

Berman's tournament will feature six more bouts. The on and off eagerly awaited 10-rounder between Daniel Bruwer and Rupert van Aswegen is finally happening. Kgotla Baeti, Warren Joubert, Isaac Chilembe and Charles Wyers will also fight.
