SuperSport United left it late but earned all three points when they beat Ajax Cape Town 2-0 in a Premiership match played at Athlone Stadium on Saturday night.
It appeared as if the visitors were happy to settle for a draw as they took their time with goal kicks and throw-ins. However, in the 75th minute, a good cross from the right went to an unmarked Daine Klate, who easily drove the ball past Ajax goalkeeper, Hans Vonk.
To add salt to the wound, 10 minutes later Vonk saved brilliantly from a shot by James Chamanga to concede a corner and, from the resultant corner kick, Shingayi Kaondera headed home.
The home side had numerous chances to score, but found the visitors goalkeeper, Denis Onyango, in fine form. The strikers were also off target.
In the 18th minute Ajax had a free kick and with his first touch Russel Mwafulirwa saw the ball skim the crossbar.
For the visitors, Klate's 25m drive was then brilliantly saved by Vonk.
Ajax again came close in the 38th minute when Franklin Cale's shot from the left side was curling into the top right hand corner, but Onyango jumped to push the ball over the bar.
In added time substitute Nathan Paulse had plenty of time to blast the ball home but, from 8m, kicked high over the bar. - Sapa
