Limpopo Softball Association (LSA) is almost home and dry in terms of securing the R1, 1 million needed to successfully host Softball South Africa (SSA)'s national championships in Polokwane next month.

LSA hosts the yearly event from March 19 to 24.

The provincial controlling body has already received R654 000 and a consignment of stock from Coca-Cola that will benefit them for over R300 000 in terms of sales.

The soft drink company will also give players and officials free drinks throughout the tournament.

Polelo "Mr Magic" Masola, chairman of LSA's local organising committee, said the R654 000 was made up of R304 000 from the department of sport, R250 000 from Super League sponsors LimDev and R100 000 from the Capricorn District Municipality.

"We are grateful to the municipality because they have also agreed to foot the bill for the closing ceremony for more than 1 000 people and this will cost them over R200 000," Masola said.

"We have asked for R120 000 from the Polokwane Municipality for the opening ceremony and we are still waiting for their response.

"We will also need a further R120 000 for the accommodation of SSA officials. The department of health and social welfare has also came on board and their paramedics will be available throughout the tournament.

"But our negotiations with other potential sponsors are going well."
